Description Disc 1 · 2011
8-10 cm. The male has a straight medium sized bill, mandible blackish, maxilla reddish with a black tip; crown and cheeks dull bronze green; upperparts shining golden green to bronze green; chin and throat pure white in coastal populations, more spotted green or entirely green in inland populations; center of the underparts white; side of chest, flanks and undertail coverts bronze green, the latter fringed white; tail bronze green with a dark subterminal band on the outer rectrices.
The female has gray tips on outer rectrices.
The immature has rufous borders to the crown, lower back and rump feathers; belly brownish.

Inland populations have green undersides, coastal populations have a white throat usually extending up to the chin. Individuals of the inland population are smaller than Polyerata fimbriata, which also has a green throat, but a white belly stripe.
