Description Disc 1 (2011)

68-75 cm. The adult is sooty olivaceous black, olivaceous brown, or warm dark brown: upperside brown: rump, upper tail coverts, and abdomen to crissum dull chocolate brown: feathers of the forehead and crest edged with gray: supercilary streak obscure or absent: malar area brown: the feathers of lower neck, mantle, wing coverts, breast and sometimes abdomen edged with white, appears to be variably streaked above and below: bill dark, tarsi blackish brown.

Usually forages on the forest ground but spends a lot of time in the subcanopy.

At certain locations, where illegal hunting is restricted, quite common, e. g. Serra Mantiqueira, Itatiaya. Dense sub-montane and montane rainforest.

The serras and litoral. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo reported from <8E>Iporanga, Pariquera-acu, Icapara, Sete Barras, Moela, Guaratuba, Cantareira, BR-2 highway , Itarare, Alto do Ribeira, Campos do Jordao, Serra Bocaina. In Estado Rio de Janeiro the <8E>Serra Mantiqueira<8E> and <8E>Serra dos Org<C4>os.
