Description Disc 1 · 2011
68-75 cm. The adult is sooty olivaceous black, olivaceous brown, or warm dark brown; upperside brown; rump, upper tail coverts, and abdomen to crissum dull chocolate brown; feathers of the forehead and crest edged with gray; supercilary streak obscure or absent; malar area brown; the feathers of lower neck, mantle, wing coverts, breast and sometimes abdomen edged with white, appears to be variably streaked above and below; bill dark, tarsi blackish brown.

The serras and litoral. In Estado São Paulo reported from Iporanga, Pariquera-acu, Icapara, Sete Barras, Moela, Guaratuba, Cantareira, BR-2 (highway), Itarare, Alto do Ribeira, Campos do Jordao, Serra Bocaina. In Estado Rio de Janeiro the Serra Mantiqueira and Serra dos Orgãos.
