42 cm. Bill serrated; mask and small spot on breast black; head and underparts rufous; back green; tail long, green to blue green with or without a raquet tip.

Taxonomy notes Disc 1 · 2011
The Blue-crowned Motmot (Momotus momota) can be found extralimital in dry forest and mata ciliar in the NE of the Estado São Paulo. It has a long and raquet-tipped tail, is green above and greenish suffused with cinnamon below and has a black crown bordered by turquoise and a black mask. It has a different call "HOO..du..du" or fast "hu..hu..hu..hu..hu..hu..hu..".
