Description Disc 1 · 2011
46 cm. The adult is dark brown above; belly and undertail coverts blackish; long graduated tail purple; tail feathers with a black subterminal band underneath and with big white tips; bare skin around the eye, red, iris red; bill greenish-yellow; feet bluish gray.
The immature has gray skin around the eye, iris brown; bill gray.

A variety of different calls. The calls presented here do not by far exhaust the repertoire of this cookoo. Loud "whip..errrr.." , a burly "eekekek", song a loud "wip wip wip", a loud "chick chick chick".

An arboreal gleaner. Forages for insects by hopping along branches. Also runs swiftly along branches like a squirrel. Glides from tree to tree.
