Fuscous Flycatcher

14 cm. Bill dark. Rufous or grayish-brown above with a conspicuous white superciliary stripe. Wings blackish with two buff wing bars. White throat. Olive-yellow breast with a brown wash. Yellow belly. The eastern coastal form fuscatus calls "wip..wip..wiu..witi...wip..." cut 2 . Ridgely ^44 records a fast jumbled series of clear notes, e.g. "chip, weety-weety-weety, chedip". <NThe western inland form bimaculatus calls "wuiiiii" cut 1 , and "wi-tchi-dip" cut 3 . Forages within dense undergrowth. The main foraging technique is enclosed perch hawking from within the foliage ^74 . Nests in crevices or tree cavities ^106 . An uncommon flycatcher in dense undergrowth and thickets of woodland, restinga, gallery and other forest patches. The form fuscatus might be confined to restinga, a fast disappearing habitat in southeast Brazil See ^97 . This species might be considered as vulnerable in Southeast Brazil. Fuscatus is reported from Rio de Janeiro state Rio de Janeiro, Sepitiba, Porto Real and eastern S<C4>o Paulo state Ubatuba, S<C4>o Sebasti<C4>o, Piassaguera, Iguape, Cananeia, Ipiranga, Campinas, Ipanema ^40 . <NBimaculatus is reported from the interior of S<C4>o Paulo state <8E>Franca, Barretos, Ituverava, Rio Tiete, Salto Grande<8E>etc. ^71 .
