Some males have a white malar streak. <NThe female has light olive-brown upperparts, lighter underparts with a yellowish belly. A vocalization of this species on the CD Aves Endemicas de Mata Atlantica , Version 2, by P. R. de Paz and A. C. Venturini, www.originalinatura.com.br, resembles the song of /Sprophila nigricollis . One male on November 10, 2002 near Tiradente, MG, visited a feeder with fruits together with other /Sporophila species Remold unpubl. . Scrub, open country, gardens, open forest, forest edge. Estado Rio de Janeiro. Found at<8E>Sitio Pinheirinho<8E>near<8E>S<C4>o Jose do Barreiro ^119 . To 800 meters ^133 .
