11 cm. Bill bluish gray. Male head, throat and chest black. Underparts pale buffy-yellow Back olive. Some males have a white wing speculum. <NThe female has light olive-brown upperparts, lighter underparts with a yellowish belly. Call "zi". Song a short accentuated strophe of 6-7 notes in about 1.5 sec. reminds sometimes of the song of /Basileuterus flaveolus . Forages in shrubbery and on the ground in pairs or small groups. Rather common in bushy openings and clearings, forest border, gardens. Throughout. Up to 2000 meters ^133 . Mostly inland, close to the coast in Estado S<C4>o Paulo found near<8E>S<C4>o Jose do Barreiro ^119 .
