12.8 cm. A greenlet of dry inland scrub and forest. Very similar to /Hylophilus poicilotis but has a rufous crown extending to the upper bill base. Face grayish, separated from the rufous crown by a pale gray superciliary. Auriculars grayish. Underparts buffier. The long bill is pale and the eyes are light gray. Song variable, a repetition of simple phrases for 3 to 7 times. Interval between phrases between 0.25 and 0.5 s. Frequency of phrases below 3.6 khz ^119 . Call a scratchy "re...re...re". Forages in the canopy of trees and scrub. Local in dry open forest, caatinga and forest edge, gallery forest. Has invaded degraded areas of the Atlantic forest ^151 . Throughout. Found inland in Estado S<C4>o Paulo at many locations such as Braganca Paulista east of<8E>Campinas , Itatiba, Avare south of Bauru , Ipanema, Sorocaba, Itapetininga, S<C4>o Paulo<8E>city, and closest to the coast near<8E>Mogi das Cruzes. In Estado Rio de Janeiro found at Rosal north of Campos , Teresopolis<8E>. In Minas Gerais goes higher than 1700 meters The two sympatric sibling species /Hylophilus poicilotis and /Hylophilus amaurocephalus were considered to be separate species by Todd ^152 and then again by Willis ^153 and Raposo et al. ^151 . 15499 Scolding call.
