17 cm. Above olive-brown, more olive than /Myiozetetes cayanensis the crown and cheeks dark grayish, with a red semi-concealed crown patch, and a white superciliary stripe. Wing coverts and flight feathers edged pale buff. Throat white. Breast and belly yellow. Tail black. Noisy, the common call is a high "wiist" reminiscent of the call of /Phyllomyias burmeisteri . Also gives fast sequences of this call, "wistwistwistwist..." or "wiio", "wist-hihihihi" etc. Forages in the middle stratum down to the ground in trees. A foraging generalist, mostly involved in aerial hawks and upward sallies. Highly frugivorous. Myiozetetes builds a untidy nest with a side entrance ^44 .
