23 cm. Similar to /Pitangus sulphuratus but with proportionally much larger bill, much less conspicuous behavior and more of a forest bird. Semiconcealed coronal patch and white superciliary stripe. Olive-brown above, with less rufous edging of flight and tail feathers. Throat white. Breast and belly yellow. <NThe juvenile has more rufous edging on flight and tail feathers. The most common call is a low harsh "rearearearea" often combined with a high fast rattle reminiscent of the call of /Myiarchus ferox , but higher, like "wiwiwirrr". Also a "kikirrr-ek" or "kerrr-ek" in sequences. Dawn song is a repeated call consisting of three syllables see sound track 6 . Perches usually in the upper stratum of tall trees, performing aerial hawks and upward strikes. Builds a cup nest ^44 .
