Oustalet's Tyrannulet

11 cm. Larger than /Phylloscartes paulistus with a similar coloration, i.e. olive-green above and pale yellow below, with an olive wash across the chest, the wings green without distinctive bars. However the face pattern is different | the area around the eye is blackish and the eye has a distinct yellow ring. Not very vocal. Call "de de du dededu" and variations thereof, in its structure reminiscent of the call of /Phaeomyias murina . Single tek tek or tik tik calls and fast didididididi..... . In contrast to /Phylloscartes paulistus quivers tail constantly. Forages in the canopy and subcanopy of forest and is frequently found in mixed flocks. Rare in primary and secondary humid forest and borders. Mostly the Serra do Mar on the upper slopes at altitudes of 700-900 meters. Encountered, e.g., at<8E>Nucleo Sta.
