10 cm. A thick-billed grayish crestless tyrannulet of the interior. Bigger than Camptostoma. Bill black and rather thick, base of mandible horn colored. Olive-brown to gray-brown above with a whitish superciliary stripe. Wings grayish-black with two buffy wingbars. Throat white. Below light brownish-gray with a light yellow belly. Call is a characteristic "jewjewjew" up to 6 and 7 times. Song is a hasty, slightly ascending "jijijijijiJIJIdede" with emphasis on the third from the last syllable cut 1 . A upward-hover gleaner and perch gleaner. Also a fruit eater, as the thick bill would suggest ^74 . Forages in shrubs and low trees. Builds a cup nest ^44 . Uncommon in open woodland and borders, gardens, gallery forest, and scrub. More common in the arid interior, but present in the Angra dos Reis area close to the shore. Spotty.
