Complete decoded account text

9.5 cm. The male is similar to /Myrmotherula iheringi . Bluish-grey above. Wing coverts black with broad white tips. Primaries and secondaries grey. Chin to belly black shading to grey on lower belly. The male differs from /Myrmotherula minor which apparently occurs in the same habitat, by having the black bib extending onto the belly. <NI know of no description of the female. Similar to vocalizations of /Myrmotherula axillaris . Juan Mazar Barnett recorded a "ziu ziu", a "zrriu" and a "zirrrr". The type specimen was mist-netted in a disturbed and isolated wood lot. At Reserva Ecologica Guapiac<DB> the birds were seen foraging in middle and lower storey of dense secondary and primary rainforest Juan Mazar Barnett . Very rare in dense rainforest. Type specimen 1982 from 4 km southeast of Santo Aleixo, Maj<CA>, Rio de Janeiro 22<91>34"45 S, 43<91>01"39 W . This location is in the foothills of the Serra dos <B4>rg<C4>os and it is thought that the bird was a straggler from the Serra dos <B4>rg<C4>os. A population was found in 1997 by S. Knapp and A. Foster at<8E>Reserva Ecol<D4>gica Guapiac<DB><8E>, 60 km northeast of Rio de Janeiro near Cachoeiras de Macacu, Estado Rio de Janeiro ^62 and antwrens fitting the description for this species by Gonzaga were observed at the same location by Guy Kirwan and Juan Mazar Barnett in February and March 1997. A recently described antwren from Estado Rio de Janeiro ^63 . Its rarity might be based on loss of suitable habitat. Sibley and Monroe ^99 consider the type specimen to be a hybrid between /Myrmotherula axillaris and /Myrmotherula unicolor but this is unlikely ^28 , because several were seen together at different occasions. It might be a local morph of /Myrmotherula axillaris ^103 . For more information see ^173 7951 Calls, Refugio da Serra do Mar, near Cachoeira de Macacu, Rio de Janeiro, 3<10>97. With /Habia rubica .
