White-flanked Antwren

9 cm. Male dark grey above. Wings black, the wing coverts with two white spotted bars. Black belly with silvery gray flank plumes. The southeast Brazilian race luctuosa differs from the other races in that in the male the flank plumes are shorter and silvery gray. Tail black, tipped white. <NFemale olive-brown above. In southeast Brazil the song is a slow and deliberate "drew drew dree dree dree dree dree" without the descending effect of the song of other subspecies ^44 .
