Description Disc 1 (2011)

26 cm. The male"s back is coppery green: crown and breast shining blue: belly crimson south to northern Estado S<C4>o Paulo or orange north to northern Estado S<C4>o Paulo : wing coverts speckled black and white: central tail rectrices shining blue, tipped black: outer rectrices white: bill greenish.<nThe female has a slaty gray throat: wing coverts black vermiculated with white: outer tail feathers white on outer the web.

Ascending sequence of 7 - 17 tiu notes, the last two or three notes lower pitched, like tiek , call kirrr .

Behavior Disc 1 (2011)

More of an arthropod-eater than other trogon species, catches insects in flight.

Breeding Disc 1 (2011)

September - December in a tree hole or termite nest.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Not uncommon in the middle stratum of primary and tall secondary large forest areas. Sea level to 2000 meters.
