Description Disc 1 (2011)

13.5 cm. A medium sized swift with a short square tail, clumsier and bigger than /chaetura cinereiventris : the rectrix spines stick out about 2 mm beyond the web: above sooty olive brown with a light bronzy sheen: moderately paler gray rump and upper tail coverts: a pale gray to almost white throat and a pale gray crissum, the rest of underparts dark brown.

Summer visitor, mostly in small foraging groups.

Nests October-Nevember in chimneys and caves, hollow trees.

Rather common in lowland forest and borders, secondary forest and scrub, towns and cities. Lowlands to 1600 meters.

Taxonomy notes Disc 1 (2011)

Bigger and clumsier than /Chaetura cinereiventris with a dark brown belly and pale throat and crissum. More prone to be found over towns. Chaetura andrei meridionalis is the subspecies in SE Brasil ^194 .
