Description Disc 1 (2011)

19-29 cm. A medium sized dark nighthawk with a relatively short tail: the wing tips project well beyond tail when sitting. Upperparts dark brown, speckled and spotted rufous and buff: wing coverts dark brown, speckled and spotted rufous, tawny and buff: white throat patch: underparts dark brown, speckled grayish-white and pale buff, becoming tawny-buff barred brown on lower belly and flanks.

Voice Disc 1 (2011)

A two -syllable whistle too..it repeated several times, a rapid kee...kee.. or kit..kit..kit.. in flight.

Behavior Disc 1 (2011)

Crepuscular and nocturnal. Roosts lengthways along a branch of a tree. Forages in and above the tree canopy flying erratic and fast with bursts of rapid wing beats and interspersed glides.

Common in forests, forest borders and openings, open areas, roads, rivers and cities.
