Description Disc 1 (2011)

44 cm. Facial disc brown, encircled by ochre with a small white chin patch and cream coloured eyebrows: chocolate brown above, the flight feathers faintly barred whitish: tail prominently barred white: breast dark brown forming a broad band: belly buff, the rest of underparts light ochre: tarsus feathered, iris brown, bill yellow, toes gray.

Call a ventriloqual pu..pu..pu..pu..pu..pu.. or brr..brr..brr..brr..brr..brr.. . Female calls with higher pitch.

Behavior Disc 1 (2011)

Nocturnal. Forages in the canopy and hunts from a perch.

Breeding Disc 1 (2011)

Breeds in tree hollow.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Uncommon: Forest and forest edge, more open woodland, also Araucaria-dominated forest. Sea level to 1500 m.

Throughout. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo reported from <8E>Conde do Pinhal, Broa, Oleo, Guaviruva, Fazenda Intervales, Serra Mantiqueira ^119 . In Estado Rio de Janeiro reported from the <8E>Serra dos Org<C4>os.

Taxonomy notes Disc 1 (2011)

Differs from /pulsatrix perspicillata in ochre and creamy, not white, spectacles and facial rim and in smaller size.
