Description Disc 1 · 2011
33-38 cm. Adult has sides of head (sometimes throat and forehead) and upper side bluish slate to dusky rufous brown (female fuscous brown); tail black, long, white-tipped, and with two to three narrow white bands; underparts white, extensively marked with narrow, evenly spaced black bars; base of remiges white or fuscous with white barring; iris white, dull orange or brown; bill black; mandible dull yellow basally; orbit, lores, cere and legs orange yellow.
The immature is fuscous brown above like the female; a narrow white or tawny collar across hind neck; undersides white to cinnamon buff, either immaculate or closely barred; sides of neck and chest sometimes strongly tinged with dull rufous.

Uncommon in the understorey and mid-levele of tropical rain forest. Also in tall secondary growth. Follows army ants (119).

Throughout. In Estado São Paulo reported from PE Jacupiranga, Barreiro Rico, Guaviruva, Itirapua, Campos do Jordao, Arapei, Fazenda Intervales.
