18-20 cm. Has a yellow bill usually with a black ridge: and a very long graduated tail with pointed tail feathers. In contrast to /Emberizoides ypiranganus the color pattern of the head is plain with olive-brown lores and ear coverts. Eye-ring and adjacent area around the eye whitish. Olive greenish-brown on the upperparts with dusky streaks. Wings olive, the bend of the wing yellow. Underparts whitish, buffy on the flanks. The flanks and undertail covers are not streaked like in /Emberizoides ypiranganus . Call "zic". Song alternating between two related phrases vocalization 1 and 2 . Young birds have a song "chu chu chu theu jeu loo " that resembles the song of /Emberizoides ypiranganus [2,60]. This song is also given sometimes shortly after dawn and is associated some times with a display flight. Forages in high grass. Not conspicuous, but more so than /Emberizoides ypiranganus . Local in high grass campos and grasslands with scattered bushes.
