Description
10 cm. Male gray above. Wings dull blackish-brown with a white speculum. Rump, underparts and cheeks a tawny-rust color.
The female is brown above, more buffy below.

Voice
Song three long drawn-out notes and a long trill at the end-'ziu ziu ziiii zrrrrrrr' - or variations thereof (Vocalization # 1).
Behavior
Forages in tall grass and scrub, also on the ground in small groups
Habitat and status
Seasonally common in tall grass savannah and marshes. A migrant showing up with Sporophila melanogaster in October/November.
