13.5 cm. Head and chin turquoise green. Lower throat black. Yellowish-green on the back and sides of the neck. Center of back and scapulars black. Rump yellow-orange. Upper tail coverts bright green. Wing coverts dark blue. Primaries black edged with light green. The rest of underparts are dark blue turquoise becoming green on flanks and crissum. <NFemale is duller. Call "zik zik zik". "zii zii. . . ." . Dawn song a repetition of "tzri, si uit", 1-2 notes <10> sec, similar to song of /Phaethornis eurynome Parker in ^119 . Forages in family groups for fruit from subcanopy to crowns of trees within the forest, comes down sometimes at the forest edge. Found sometimes together with /Tangara desmaresti .
