The account
Description
13 cm. Male has a rufous head and paler rufous on throat; the sides of neck with a big yellow patch. Upperparts olive green. Rump dark orange. Breast orange. Lower underparts greenish gray. Center of belly pale yellow.
The female has olive-green upperparts with a yellow superciliary. Rump yellow green. Underparts pale yellow with an olive wash on breast.

How the map was made
The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.
The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.

Voice
Calls: a high 'chit' and a lower 'zek'. Song a fast sequence of high notes:'zi zi zi zi zi zi zi zi zi chew chit-it' (159) (vocalization # 3).
Behavior
Pairs and family groups most of the time as part of a mixed flock forage in the crowns of tall trees.
Breeding
In Estado Rio de Janeiro a female was observed building a nest in October (T. Parker, Jr. fide Isler and Isler (159)). Hybridizes with Hemithraupis guira (119).
Habitat and status
Not uncommon in primary and secondary large forest and forest edge. Survived in a 250 ha. woodlot in São Paulo (48). Seems to be more common in the northern part of its distribution range.
