The account

Description

24 cm. Upper parts olive-brown. Lores blackish-brown. Throat white with black streaks. Belly buff-white. In breeding plumage the bill is yellow.

Juvenile is brown with pale feather shafts on crown, nape and back. Wing coverts have pale buff central shaft streaks becoming pale orange buff and spots on tips of the secondaries form a wing bar. The underside and face are mottled brown on a buff or yellowish background (Clement P, Thrushes)

How the map was made

The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.

The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.

Voice

Song a collection of repeated monotonous simple, and repeated short phrases with long pauses between them (vocalization # 1-3). Much less melodious than the song of Turdus rufiventris (compare vocalizations in # 1). Also a short 'pup' (vocalization # 4) or a 'wek' (vocalization # 5).

Behavior

Shy, more arboreal than other thrushes, feeds on fruit. Shakes tail vertically on landing (¹⁴³).

Common at forest edge, in parks, glades, secondary forest.

Distribution

Throughout, inland in dry forest and forest edge, below 1400 meters.
