13 cm. Male has a black cap with a blue hue and a gray supra-loral area. Back gray with thick black stripes. Rump gray. Wings black with white scapulars, two white wing bars and white margins to the flight feathers. Below gray. Tail black with white tips on the outer rectrices. <NThe female is like the male, but has a rufous crown which differentiates it from the female /Pachyramphus polychopterus and a white supra-loral spot. Shoulders are olive-green. Below yellowish-white. The most common call is a fast "do-wi-do-wit......do-wi-do-witt......" and variations thereof. It also has calls similar to those of /Pachyramphus polychopterus cuts 2 and 4 and they are sometimes not differentiable. Foraging in the canopy of large forest trees. Sometimes in mixed bird parties. A becard of the humid forest canopy. Rather common in the interior of humid primary and mature secondary forest. Seems to require large tracts of intact and undisturbed forest. Throughout. We recorded it from sea level in the Serra do Mar Ubatuba<8E>and the Corisco Trail near<8E>Picinguaba , PE Jacupiranga, and from<8E>Jureia<8E>near Peruibe.
