The account

Description

14.0 cm. Similar to Myiozetetes similis, but in this species the bill is longer and the throat is yellow. Crown and ear coverts black. A white superciliary stripe. Olive-brown above. Wings and tail blackish dusky. Below yellow, clouded olive on the breast.

How the map was made

The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.

The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.

Voice

A characteristic repeated 'cheuw cheuw cheuw.....'. The sequence of the single sounds can become faster or slower. Completely unlike the vocalizations of Myiozetetes similis.

Behavior

Foraging always in groups or family parties in the upper stratum of the forest canopy. An outward-hover gleaner, aerial hawker and fruit eater (⁷⁴).

Breeding

The genus Conopias nests in tree cavities (⁴⁴).

Habitat and status

A tyrant flycatcher of primary, rarely tall secondary forest canopy. Not uncommon in primary and secondary mature rain forest and borders.

Distribution

Ilha do Cardoso, Fazenda Intervales, PE Jacupiranga. Forrester lists it as scarce for the Serra do Mar and accidental for the Serra Mantiqueira. Sea level to 400 meters (Fazenda Intervales, Remold).
