17 cm. Short crest. Bill bluish gray. Iris dark red. <NMale is glossy blue black with white bases to the primaries showing as a white band in flight. <NFemale is identical except for chestnut streaks on the throat. <NBigger than /Knipolegus cyanirostris . Usually silent. Hawks for prey from vantage points and also performs perch to ground sallies. Seems to be more conspicuous than /Knipolegus cyanirostris . A Knipolegus of the high mountains. Quite common near the tree limit in mountains on bush-covered rocky slopes and grassland. High mountains of southeast Brazil | <8E>Serra Mantiqueira, Serra dos Org<C4>os<8E>. In the city of<8E>Rio de Janeiro<8E>on Corcovado, Pico da Tijuca, Pico da G<C2>vea ^40 . Usually 1800-2300 meters, but in bad weather down to 1600 meters in<8E>Itatiaia Remold . 10724 >:
