17 cm. A large Pewee-like flycatcher. Lower mandible yellowish. Grey-olive above, the wings blackish with two indistinct grey wing bars. Throat, center of chest and upper belly and all of the lower belly yellowish-white. Sides of chest and upper belly olive-grey. Tail blackish. A distinct "pip-pip-pip-pip...." similar to the call of /Contopus cinereus . Song a repeated "wip...dee...dee". Usually seen perching high on top of trees in forest and forest edge. A winter visitor from North America. Rare in secondary or primary humid forest. Vagrant to the Serra Mantiqueira and Serra do Mar. November 1986 Serra Mantiqueira Recording by T. A.
