11 cm. A tyrant of the highlands associated with bamboo thickets in humid forest. Above olive-gray with a whitish-gray eye ring and a whitish round spot in front of the eye. Throat and breast gray. Belly grayish white with yellow on the crissum. A high "tirrrrrrrr", "zick tirrrrrrr " repeated, "zirrrrik tik" and variations thereof. Does not produce high dry "tik" sequences like /Hemitriccus obsoletus . Forages by performing upward strikes in dense undergrowth of forest. Nest is a pocket with side entrance and the side entrance has a little roof. ^77 . Reasonably common in undergrowth of dense humid primary and secondary forest where bamboo is dominant. More frequently heard than seen. Rarer in the Serra do Mar. Between about 600-1600 meters in the<8E>Serra Mantiqueira, Serra dos Org<C4>os<8E>. 7993 Calls.
