11 cm. A tyrant of the highlands, not confined to bamboo thickets. Buff ochre above with an olive touch. A bright buff eye-spot in front of the eye. Wings and tail darker without bars. A staccato sequence of hard, dry "tik...tik...tik...." notes of varying speed, sometimes drawn together into a dry trill cut 4 . Forages in dense undergrowth of montane forest by performing upward strikes and perch gleaning. Hard to observe. The nest is a big pocket attached to the leaves of orchids with a side entrance ^77 .
