13 cm. Olive brown above, wings and tail brownish with two indistinct buff wing bars, primaries, secondaries and tertiaries with buff edges. Head and throat olive gray. Chest becoming beige. Belly ochraceous. Mostly silent. Males are said to sing a squeaky phrase "peeor...peeor" perching in open undergrowth within earshot of each other ^44 . Undergrowth of primary and secondary rain forest and clearings, sometimes in mixed flocks. Listed as a scarce resident for the Serra dos Org<C4>os area ^15 . Listed as common for the Reserva Ecol<D4>gica de Guapiac<DB> near Cachoeira de Macacu, Estado Rio de Janeiro. Also reported from Mag<CA> 30 km NE of Rio de Janeiro and Tingu<C2> 42 km NNW of Rio de Janeiro L. P. Gonzaga cited in ^30 . Mostly extralimital.
