Olivaceous Elaenia

15 cm. Closely resembles /Elaenia parvirostris but is more dark olive with indistinctive streaking below and has only two wing bars. <NA dark bird, olive-brown above, the wings black with two yellow wing bars. Olive-gray below with darker indistinct longitudinal streaks. Throat lighter. Center of belly whitish. Flanks olive-yellow. Crissum olive yellow. Has a number of characteristic calls, including a "piurr" or "wiurr" repeated . Song is a rythmic harsh "wrik-wrikiurrr", "wek-wiurrr", or "wek-wek-wek-wek-wikiurr". A typical upward-hover gleaner. Also eats fruits. Frequently seen perched exposed on a branch or top of tree. The common Elaenia of the higher altitudes. Not uncommon at forest borders, and therefore not so frequently seen in the interior canopy of montane forest. Seems to be most frequent at the tree line, where single large trees penetrate into the bush zone, or at the border of secondary clearings. Seems to be most regularly encountered at an altitude between about 700 meters to 2200 meters throughout the area <8E>Serra dos Org<C4>os, Serra Mantiqueira, Serra Bocaina, Campos do Jord<C4>o, Nucleo Sta.
