Small-billed Elaenia

15 cm. Very similar to /Elaenia albiceps , probably not distinguishable in the field and they may even be the same species. Throat and chest grayish. The third wing bar on the lesser wing coverts may only be present in fresh plumage Ridgely . Call, "chi-brr", is similar to the call of albiceps Ridgely, listen to cut 2 of albiceps . Also a more two-syllabled "zi-jeu" cut 2 . Song dawn is a burry four-syllable "wi-di-du-we" cut 1 . Also gives short "jip" calls and a descending "wirrrr" ^38 . Presumably engages in perch and upward-hover gleaning like the other Elaenias ^74 . Occurs in forest borders, gardens and shrub, and according to Ridgely ^44 also in humid forest during migration. Uncommon. Throughout. A rare breeder in Southern Estado S<C4>o Paulo near<8E>Itarar<CA>, 1983, ^76 and Pinto mentions the species from Curitiba, Estado Parana, ca 100 km south of the border of Estado S<C4>o Paulo.
