Large Elaenia

18 cm. Similar to /Elaenia flavogaster in appearance, but with a shorter crest and less white in the crown patch. Above olive-gray. Wings grayish black, with three white wing bars because the lesser coverts also have a whitish tips . Light gray below, the belly yellowish-white. Call a characteristic repeated "wichu", sometimes with the first syllable omitted "chu" or "cha". Listen to the last track of this species on ^38 . Song a three syllable repeated "plipliplu". This bird is not as conspicuous and noisy as /Elaenia flavogaster . Fairly common. An inhabitant of open scrub, forest borders and groups of trees, even farmland.
