15 cm. A large, widely distributed Elaenia of open woodland and scrub with a prominent crest and a less discernible white coronal patch. Above grayish olive. Wings brownish-black with 2 white wing bars and white edges to the primaries. Throat grayish-white. Breast olive-gray. Belly sulphur-yellow to white. Tail brownish-black. Most common call is a burry, descending" briiiiir, week-kree-eer" etc. Dawn song is a repeated "delee..delee..delee..deli-de-DEE" ^30, and listen to the first two tracks of this species in ^38 . Duet calls are on cut 3. Forages by upward hover gleaning from an enclosed position, perch gleaning without much sallying and hawking for insects. Also frugivorous ^74 . All /Elaenia species, as far as known, build compact, open cup nests placed on a horizontal branch ^86 . In open forest, forest edge, scrub and hedges.
