13 cm. Not distinguishable with certainty in the field from /Neopelma aurifrons . Iris color pale grayish blue. Olive-green above with a yellow coronal patch. Throat whitish clouded with olive-gray. Belly pale yellow. However, habitat immediately defines this species. The song is complex, has a typical sound color and consists of three elements ^93 | <N1 1-4 sharp notes which can be repeated before the second part is started: <N2 3 or 4 rough and longer syllables and, <N3 two syllables which are quieter and drawn out, "gib gil gilb....zree zree zreei... zew.. zew" or variations thereof. Forages using short range less than 1 m sally-hovers to take fruits and sally-strikes to take insects ^93 . Nest is a bag with an awning which is put beneath banks or a hanging root ^92 . The highland Tyrant-Manakin of Southeast Brazil. More or less common in low or middle stratum of dense forest and highland scrub with small trees or at forest borders of primary or secondary montane forest bordering on bushy areas or in bushy areas with stunted tree growth. Not found in the lowlands in the interior of forest . Throughout. The<8E>Serra Mantiqueira, Serra do Mar ^93 and possibly the<8E>Serra dos Org<C4>os<8E>. From<8E>Rio de Janeiro<8E>south to<8E>Fazenda Intervales Remold, ^93 . Not lower than 800 meters <8E>Nucleo Sta. Virginia<8E>above Ubatuba, Remold to about 1700 meters <8E>Serra Mantiqueira<8E> .
