14 cm. Bill longer than that of /Neopelma aurifrons . Sexes alike. Iris pale grayish-pink. Olive-green above with a large semi-concealed coronal patch bright yellow bordered with dusky. Throat white with gray indistinct flammulation. Breast washed with olive-gray, belly white. The raucous call resembles that of the Squirrel Cuckoo "he-gheh-gheh" ^30 or "wraah, wra-wra" ^44 . Occurs within dense tangles in the lower stratum of trees. When single males display, they jump up vertically, display crown and beat wings making a "dop-dop" noise like a small woodpecker ^30 , then return to perch and utter their rough call. Uncommon and local in dense viny tangles of gallery and dry forest and borders. Extralimital. Inland in northern Estado S<C4>o Paulo Lins etc., ^40 and Minas Gerais Parco Nacional de Cara<C8>a, ^15 .
