9.5 cm. Grayish above with the top of the head, the wings and the tail darker. Center of the throat, breast and crissum buff colored. Rest of the underside white barred black. Male has lilac flank tufts. Usually silent. A sharp bisyllabic whistle "si-si" thinner than the call of /Euphonia chlorotica . Song a sequence of limpid notes with short repeated motifs ^79 . This little bird is often very hard to see because its sits quietly in an upright position for many minutes within the canopy of a tree on thin branches resembling a fruit or a leaf. Sometimes also sits exposed at top of trees. Likes mistletoe berries. Nest is a very small cup resembling the nest of a hummingbird E. O. Willis . Not uncommon in primary humid forest or mature secondary forest and forest edge. Also on single trees standing alone close to the forest border as at the Fazenda Capricornio near Ubatuba. This species qualifies as "endangered" because of its small and severely fragmented range ^103 . Mostly the Serra do Mar. In S<C4>o Paulo state near<8E>Ubatuba Fazenda Intervales, Rio Escuro, for example , Picinguaba.
