18 cm. Iris red. Head, neck and throat black. Upperparts olive-green. Below duller, the belly yellowish, faintly barred with dusky-black. <NThe female has olive on the crown and head ^44 . Call is a characteristic low whistle "tuoooo" descending in pitch. Forages for fruit in the middle and upper stratum of humid forest. Less vocal than /Carpornis cucullatus and easily overlooked. A rare Berryeater of the lowlands in primary and mature secondary forest.. This species qualifies as "vulnerable", because of its small and fragmented population ^103 . Mostly found south of S<C4>o Paulo on the coastal plain, Juqui<C2>, Cananeia, Ilha do Cardoso, Saibadela near Registro . A historical 1893 record from<8E>Iguape ^40 .
