12 cm. Easily to identify by its long flesh colored legs and stubby tail. <NMale"s upper head and wing coverts are bright orange rufous. Forehead, sides of head and lores black, post-ocular tuft white. Back brownish-grey. Throat and underbelly white, sides of belly gray. Wings and tail brownish-black the wing feathers with white tips. <NFemale is olive-brown above the back feathers fringed white. Post-ocular tuft white. Wing coverts olive-brown with buff terminal spots which clearly differentiate it from the female of /Conopophaga lineata . Below, including the throat, rusty buff. Center of belly white. | Call is a harsh and sharp repeated "zzeek", harsher than the call of /Conopophaga lineata . Song is an ascending series of short bell-like whistles. Undergrowth of humid rain forest. Close to or on the ground, usually hopping around in dense vegetation. Often reveals itself by its call. Local in primary and secondary rain forest. Locally common.
