11 cm. Male"s upper parts are grayish olive with an blackish mask. Wings olive-black with two narrow white wing bands. Throat whitish. Below whitish-gray, the belly whitish.<N Female"s crown and wings are rufous-brown. Auriculars dusky-brown. Otherwise olive-brown above. Below a lighter gray-olive, the belly yellow. Song a sequence of notes starting of very slowly and accelerating increasingly towards the end "tuep tuep tuep tuep tuep tu tu tutututu". Cut 1 demonstrates first the song of /Dysithamnus stictothorax , which starts out much faster, followed by the song of this species. Slowly moves about, usually in pairs, in low scrub and undergrowth of forest. A common antvireo of humid forest. Frequently encountered in lower stratum of humid primary and secondary forest and borders. Sea level to about 1000 meters. Throughout. Especially common near<8E>Ubatuba<8E>and<8E>Parati<8E>. Occurs further inland, e. g. at<8E>Ibitipoca<8E>and Reserva Rio Do<C8>e, Minas Gerais where /Dysithamnus stictothorax is not found. 2209 Song. Picinguaba, east of Ubatuba, 11<10>20<10>98.
