12 cm. Male grayish olive above with dark gray head and a line of white stipples arching backwards above the upper border of the ear coverts. Wings olive-brown with narrow white bars on coverts. Throat white. Belly lemon yellow with blackish-gray spots.<N Female has a rufous crown but is otherwise similar. Song an accelerating and descending in the last part "tuetuetuetue tu tutututututu" faster at the beginning than the song of /Dysithamnus mentalis . Call a low "wurrr" repeated sometimes for long time periods or a repeated "wiu....wiu..." Occurs commonly in lower growth of secondary and primary woodland borders. Sometimes occurs together with /Dysithamnus mentalis . Relatively common in undergrowth of primary and secondary humid forest. Throughout but not in dryer inland habitats. Found at<8E>PE Jacupiranga, Ilha do Cardoso, Iguape, Fazenda Intervales, coastal forests from<8E>Bertioga<8E>to<8E>Rio de Janeiro, Serra Bocaina, Serra Mantiqueira<8E>etc., From sea level to about 1000 meters.
