The account
Description
17 cm. Smaller than Lepidocolaptes squamatus. Head is olive with buff streaks and an indistinct buff superciliary. Above rich olive-brown with the buff streaks extending onto the shoulders and back (Lepidocolaptes squamatus is unstreaked above). Wings and tail rufous unmarked. Throat buff. The side of neck brown with buff streaks. Breast and belly light olive with much less distinct buff streaks.

How the map was made
The original program computed each red dot at display time from the locality's coordinates, using its map library and one of five base maps drawn for the screen widths of the day. That library's projection — an oblique rotation of the sphere about the map's own centre, 23.7°S 47.4°W — was read from the program and checked against the graticule the same program drew into the base maps: it reproduces every grid intersection to within about a pixel. The dots here use that projection on the 1280-pixel base map, with the coordinates the discs record. Nothing was placed by hand, no modern map data was used, and a place whose coordinate is incomplete, out of range or beyond the map's edge is listed rather than guessed.
The discs carried location maps only; none shows a distribution or range.

Voice
Quite vocal. Call is a sequence of single 'wit-wit-wit....' notes (cut #2). Song a line of 'tchittchittchit....' becoming faster then slower, sometimes building a trill which is then followed by some "stuttered" sequences of 'tchitt..' (44).
Behavior
Scales trees mostly in the subcanopy.
Habitat and status
A common forest species, . The most common woodcreeper in southeast Brazil. More often at low altitude in humid mature secondary and primary forest and borders. Usually at lower altitudes (up to 1300 meters) than Lepidocolaptes squamatus.
