8.3 , Chestnut crown with somewhat elongated feathers. Lores dark brown. Ear coverts rufous. An indistinct lighter superciliary. Above rufous-brown , more russet on the upper tail coverts and a rufous tail. Throat white with the feathers distinctly tipped dark brown at the base and sides of the throat most abundant on the sides . Breast and center of abdomen whitish, sides of chest with a rufous-brown wash turning to ochraceous-brown on the sides of belly and under tail coverts. <NThe immature plumage lacks the dark brown tips on the feathers on the sides of the throat and the throat is more buffy, less white. ^41 "Tchit tchit"-staccato sequences delivered with varying speed were recorded by Belton Cut 1 . Duets have been recorded by John Wall ^42 . In pairs, secretive and difficult to see ^43 . Rare. Low in thickets of gallery forests, reported from the vicinity of streams, dense secondary forest, dense scrub at the interface between deciduous and /Araucaria forest, bamboo thickets in gullies. It seems that the predominant reason for its rarity is habitat destruction, especially the clearing of damp thickets along streams and rivulets ^103 . From Estado S<C4>o Paulo southward.
