15 cm. Mostly green, paler and brighter on the face, and darker on the crown and upper side. Scapulars and back blackish-brown. Sides of belly bluish-gray. Lateral tail feathers red, tipped black. <NIn the female the flanks are darker gray. Call a trisyllablic "tiriri" vocalization 1 in contrast to the very similar bi-syllablic "tiri" of /Pionopsitta pileata ^119 , but not always clearly to separate when flying over. Forages in the canopy of trees and in tall shrubs in pairs or in small flocks. September-October. Humid lowland or lower montane rainforest mostly between 500-1000 meters ^127 . Also found in sandplain forest close to the shore ^120 . Rare and irregular. In Estado Rio de Janeiro seen in<8E>Tijuca National Park 1966, 1979, 1980 , Pedra Branca State Park 1987 , Cantagalo 1854-56 , Teresopolis 1991 , Desengano State Park 1987 , Itatiaia 1989 , Viscode de Maua and Maringa 1991 .
