23 cm. Crown light brown, the rest of head bluish. Whole face maroon with whitish ear coverts. Chin, throat, sides of neck and breast green with light buffy scaling. Underparts green, the belly with a brownish red patch in the center. Upper parts green, brownish red rump. Red carpal area. Primaries blue. Tail brownish red above, brown below. Call "wit wit wit", not as grating as the vocalizations of /Pyrrhura frontalis . Forages in trees and tall bushes, usually in small flocks. Locally fairly common in humid rainforest, forest edge and adjacent cleared areas with scattered trees. Reputed to occur in Estado Rio de Janeiro and Estado S<C4>o Paulo, but there is no further information ^124 . A good location to look for this species might be<8E>Desengano State Park<8E>.
