Male 21-23.5 cm, female 21-24.5 cm. <NForehead and face grayish white. Whitish violet on the crown. Hindneck iridescent purple or reddish. The rest of the upper side brown with a purplish sheen. Underside white with a purplish sheen. Bill and cere red. Iris orange brown or yellow brown, <NThe female is duller, with a purple gloss only on the hindneck. Neck and breast brownish. <NJuveniles are darker with breast brown and feathers scalloped cinnamon. Call a short "poo" difficult to differentiate from the call of /Leptotila rufaxilla ^119 . Forages on the ground in forests in pairs or singly. Breeder. Rare or overlooked in dense primary or secondary forest. Throughout.
