Description Disc 1 · 2011
75 - 85 cm. An ashy gray crested eagle with a short tail and long wings. The adult has a long crest, the crest feathers lanceolate and black; ashy gray all over, darkest on pileum and back; tips of remiges black; upper tail coverts black, broadly tipped white; tail black tipped white and with a prominent white median band and a second white band basally, narrower and usually concealed by the tail coverts; tibiae fuscous; iris reddish brown; bill bluish gray, yellow at the base; feet yellow.
The immature is crested, upper side brownish gray; feathers of the wing coverts tipped and finely vermiculated cinnamon; necksides and hindneck buff, boldly striped fuscous; dark postocular stripe; head sides and underside light buff with fine shaft streaks and prominent fuscous stripes; tibiae fuscous with fine tawny barring; tail marbled gray, white tipped and with a broad subterminal band.
