Description Disc 1 (2011)

17.5-20 cm. Rufescent from the base of the bill to above and in front of the eye: buffy white moustache: the rest of the head dark brown streaked buff: upper parts dark brown streaked buff: dark brown upper tail coverts tipped rufous brown: wings dark brown with buffy tips of the feathers of the wing coverts: tail dark brown: white band on the upper breast followed below by black band: belly rufous in the center becoming dull brown on brown scalloped sides: center of the belly white: bill black: iris brown: feet bluish gray.

Call a high whistle tie..tie..tie..tie..tie.. , a weak pit .

Behavior Disc 1 (2011)

Hawks from a perch. Follows army ant swarms.

April and October. A nest is excavated in a bank

Rare, maybe a summer migrant, in humid forest edge, secondary forest: in the interior also in dry forest and borders.

Throughout. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo reported from <8E>Aracacu, Barreiro Rico, Fazenda Paraiso, Bauru, Pariquera-Acu, Sete Barras, Santa Cecilia, PE Jacupiranga, Itapeva, Fazenda Intervales, ^119 , Iporanga.
