Description Disc 1 (2011)

10.1-13.7 cm. The male has a short straight black bill: crown glittering green: subocular band black: ear coverts glittering purple: the rest of the upper parts shining green: underparts white: tail rounded, the outer three rectrices white, the two central rectrices dark blue. <nThe female is similar but lacking glittering purple ear coverts: throat and breast with gray dots: the female"s tail is longer than that of the male: white outer three rectrices with a black basal band. <nThe immature is like the female, but the head feathers have cinnamon fringes.

Forages for nectar and small arthropods on flowering plants from the middle stratum to the tree tops.

Habitat and status Disc 1 (2011)

Uncommon in southeast Brazil in humid primary and secondary forest borders, glades, gardens. Sea level - 800 meters.

Distribution Disc 1 (2011)

Humid forests of the litoral. In Estado Rio recorded from <8E>Cachoeira de Macacu. In Estado S<C4>o Paulo recorded from <8E>Fazenda Intervales, Caverna do Diabo, PE Jacupiranga ^119 .
